Management

Jed ByerlyPrincipal and Managing Member

Jed joined Global Discoveries in 2003 after a very successful executive career managing a multibillion dollar division of a Fortune 500 company, where he was known as a creative entrepreneur who brought practical common sense solutions to each department under his supervision. He was frequently called on to take over and turn around failing departments; this was the most challenging and rewarding part of his career. Much of Global Discoveries’ work requires collaborative problem solving and Jed enjoys using the executive perspective and experience gained in his career to assist each of the department managers accomplish their goals.

Jed has been happily married to his college sweetheart for over 30 years. Together they have a one daughter who is attending the Honors College at Boston University. During the off hours, Jed is a competitive amateur cyclist and can be found competing in road races throughout the west coast.

Nick Anderson – Claims Manager

Nick came to Global Discoveries after working in the asset recovery industry as an unclaimed property locator since 2010. He has dedicated his career to reuniting private citizens and companies with their rightful property.

Born and raised in Northern California, Nick graduated from high school and attended CSU Fresno as well as Sacramento State playing football. He loves what he does and feels great joy in helping his clients claim what they never knew they had.

In his spare time, he enjoys golf, exercising, following his favorite sports teams and considers Lake Tahoe his favorite place on earth.

Brett Clemensen – Claims Manager

Brett came to Global Discoveries from the mortgage industry. He is an Eagle Scout and has been active in The Boy Scouts of America for over 35 years. Both Brett’s father and son are Eagle Scouts as well. Brett was raised in California’s Central Valley, earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree at CSU Stanislaus and worked in many areas of the country before returning to the area in 2003.

An active father who volunteers for a number of local groups, Brett is also active in his church community. “I have always been in the business of helping people,” says Brett. “I enjoy helping to improve another’s life, and I have the opportunity to do that here at Global Discoveries on a daily basis.”

Tony Contreras – Claims Manager

Tony came to Global after working in the insurance industry for the last 11 years. He is a firm believer in doing all things from a moral and ethical standpoint first. With this mindset and through proper insurance coverage, Tony was able to help families manage the risks of everyday life, recover from the unexpected and fulfill their dreams.

Born and raised in Modesto, Tony graduated from Davis High School and attended CSU Stanislaus where he graduated from their accredited business program with a bachelor’s degree in business and a concentration in Marketing. Although a great accomplishment, Tony will tell you he’s most proud of becoming a father.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, pup and friends. He is a sports enthusiast and loves the outdoors.

Chris Oskiera – Claims Manager

Chris came to Global Discoveries as an experienced professional having been the Vice President of Sales for a prominent mortgage company and the Vice President of Operations for a repossession location and management firm; that in addition to holding several other senior executive positions in both publicly traded and privately held financial services companies. Chris isn’t all big business though, he also understands small companies and the needs of the individual having owned and operated his own successful commercial and residential real estate brokerage firm.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Chris earned a BS in finance at Drexel University. After graduation Chris went on to work as an Internal Auditor for a major insurance company which required extensive travel throughout the country. It was during those travels that Chris met his wife and made the move to Northern California where he raised his two daughters.

Chris’ competitive optimism and the need to achieve is only surpassed by his unwavering sense of integrity and client commitment. For Chris, customer service is not only a responsibility but an absolute passion.

Theresa Storlie – Claims Manager

Theresa has been a Professional Claims Manager since 2009. In her 10 year career she has assisted over a 1000 clients in recovering what is rightfully theirs. She enjoys creating and maintaining strong relationships with her clients as they go through the claim process.

Born and raised in California, she graduated from San Jose State University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater Arts. She took the opportunity before kids and marriage to travel to Southeast Asia, visiting Taipei, Hong Kong, Macau, Bangkok and Koh Samui. While in Taipei she shot 2 Ford Festiva commercials. On another journey she was able to visit family in Belfast, Tuscany, Amsterdam and London on her 6 month Eurail adventure around Western Europe.

After staying home with her two boys for 12 years, she helped her husband build his Home Inspection Business before becoming a Claims Manager. He is still enjoying his success in the Real Estate business.

Theresa is currently setting up an art studio in her backyard, where she will create ceramics and paint. She enjoys running, hiking and caring for her two dogs and six chickens.


Jim Wisner – Claims Manager

Jim joined the Global Discoveries team in 2012. A native of Nebraska and raised in the central valley of California, Jim earned his bachelor’s degree in Linguistics from The University of California at Berkeley. After graduation Jim enjoyed a career in investment banking research, which took him to Moscow, Russia for several years and then back to San Francisco. After returning to the States, Jim earned his Juris Doctor from the Drivon School of Law at Humphreys College and worked in the legal field.

Jim’s greatest strengths are his tenacity, a positive outlook and a genuine desire to help people. When not behind the desk, Jim enjoys the company of his beloved family and is an avid reader. He is also an accomplished musician who has performed and recorded all over the world.

Lender Services

Amy Elmer – Manager of Claims Administration

Amy is a Central California native who joined Global Discoveries in 2005. Amy’s skill and dedication earned her the firm’s Most Valuable Player Award twice, as well as the Team Spirit Award and the Most Focused on Company Goals Award.

As Amy explains, “I believe in what we do at Global Discoveries. Global Discoveries and the entire staff hold themselves to high ethical and moral standards. We are consistently looking for ways to better the company to ensure we are looking out for their clients’ best interests.”

While working for Global over the past 10 years, Amy completed her bachelor’s degree in Business Management and her master’s degree in Business Administration. In her spare moments, Amy enjoys spending time outdoors, gardening, skiing, hiking, and fishing. She also enjoys spending time with her husband, three children, and three dogs.

Claims Processing

Michelle Barajas – Manager of Claims Processing

Michelle’s early years were spent in Los Angeles before moving to California’s Central Valley where she graduated from high school and attended Merced College. She joined Global Discoveries in 2006 and works hard handling the many details necessary to file claims and manage their progress to completion. Michelle prides herself on learning quickly and managing multiple tasks, and in being easy to get along with.

When not at work, Michelle enjoys spending time with family, exercising, and decorating.

Candace Mantel – Manager of Claims Processing

Candace grew up with her family in the Central Valley until she moved to Southern California in 2008 where she attended college at Vanguard University to study Business Administration.

Candace joined Global Discoveries in 2013 after relocating back to the Central Valley. In her spare time she enjoys exercising, serving at her local church, and spending time with friends and family.

Candace Cox – Claims Processor

Candace joined Global Discoveries in 2014. She was born in Southern California and moved to the Central Valley in 1991, where she graduated high school. She is happily married with one child. As Candace explains, “at Global Discoveries I assist with filing claims and many other tasks. I enjoy being a part of Global Discoveries and look forward to many more years with the company.”

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and camping.

Linda Hunnel – Claims Processor

Linda grew up in Oregon and attended Northwest Nazarene College before moving to California in 2005. That same year she began working at Global Discoveries and especially appreciates the company’s collaborative approach, with employees working together on behalf of its clients.

Happily married for more than 20 years, Linda is actively involved in her local church and busy raising her five children. She is especially proud of her eldest son who serves in the Army National Guard.

Maria Martin-Mendoza – Claims Processor

Maria joined Global Discoveries in 2016. Raised in Los Angeles, Maria moved to the Central Valley in 2000 where she worked in the title industry with Fidelity Title and Chicago Title for a total of 11 years.

Maria started her education at Modesto Junior College and later transferred to Computer Tutor Business & Technology where she graduated as an Administrative Accounting Clerk.

In her leisure time, Maria enjoys camping and traveling with her husband, four children and two grandchildren.

Data Processing

Beki Rush – Data Manager

Beki is a Bay Area native who began working for Global Discoveries in 2004. While working for Global Discoveries, she earned her associate’s degree in Administration of Justice from Modesto Junior College, making the dean’s list each semester.

In her position as data manager, Beki is responsible for identifying and verifying owners of unclaimed assets. According to Beki, her favorite aspect of her job is solving the complex puzzle of claim entitlement.

In her spare time, Beki enjoys reading and watching baseball.

Rick Nguyen – Data Analyst

Rick has worked in the title insurance industry for over 13 years from the bottom up. His title experience encompasses searching, examining, and quality control for some of the leading title insurers in the industry.

He lived in the Sacramento area for most of his life and just recently relocated to Modesto. In his time off, he enjoys the outdoors, playing basketball and conquering RPG games.

Information Technology

Lee Craddock – Director of Information Technology

Lee brought more than 10 years information technology experience in the education and finance sectors before joining Global Discoveries in 2005. He is the architect, manager, and lead developer of our firm’s custom asset recovery tracking systems and the Claim Management System available to clients on this web site and he oversees day-to-day IT operations. His achievements have earned him Global Discoveries’ “Superior Quality” and “Get it Right the First Time” Awards.

As Lee explains, “I enjoy providing cutting-edge technology that reduces time and paperwork which ultimately increases the number of people we can help with our services. No other company in our industry has the level of technology we have and this gives us an advantage throughout the asset location and claim process.”

Born and raised in northern England he came to the United States to attend the University of Oklahoma (OU) where he studied Computer Science, started his technology career in the university’s information technology department, and met his future wife. In his spare time, Lee enjoys spending time with his wife and two teenage children, completing items on his “honey-do” list, and yelling at the TV on game day.

Kevin Nabb – Programmer Analyst

Kevin joined the Global Discoveries team in 2014, bringing over 9 years of information technology experience from the education and background screening sectors.

Kevin grew up in Rhode Island before graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He then served 10 years as a commissioned officer in the signal branch of the U.S. Army before pursuing a career in software development.

During his time away from the office, Kevin enjoys spending time with his family, playing guitar, and working on his own software development projects.

Research

Allison Gevanni – Research Manager

Allison enjoys the diversity of her job and loves the more challenging research cases. Since 2012 she has found a passion for the hunt while locating heirs, tracing gatekeepers at a variety of institutions, and researching international clients.

Previous to research, she has an administrative and property management background of over 10 years.

The most rewarding facets of this business are helping to reconnect families in many cases and of course, helping owners find and regain their lost assets.

Outside of work, Allison enjoys spending quality time with her family.

Joanna Ortiz – Research Analyst

Joanna relocated from the East Bay to the Central Valley to raise her family in 1998.

She comes to Global Discoveries with over 14 years of investigative research experience with both Alameda and Stanislaus Counties.

In her spare time she is involved in her children’s school, sports and church activities. She enjoys reading, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

Associates

Taylor Addams – Research Associate

Taylor comes to Global Discoveries with 15 years of experience as a forensic genealogical researcher, locating missing heirs and beneficiaries nationwide. Taylor is a Canadian and graduated from Robertson College in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she received an Honors diploma in the Protection and Investigation Officer Program.

Born in the province of Ontario, Taylor now makes her home in beautiful British Columbia, and enjoys creating digital art and cartooning in her spare time.
